Program Overview

This program is designed to prepare students for employment as phlebotomists or aiding in upgrading the skills of any medical professionals already practicing phlebotomy. The program prepares students to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. The program consists of 210 clock-hours and can be completed in 12 weeks.


Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. The program is delivered in a blended format. Online course work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, OSHA Safety Standards and career development, while the lab training teaches students the skills and techniques to perform puncture methods and includes lab exercises, work with a training arm and other exercises intended to prepare students to function as an entry level Phlebotomy Technician.


Upon completion of this program students will receive a Diploma.

Program Objectives:

Master Blood Collection Techniques: Train students in various methods of venipuncture, capillary puncture, and other blood collection techniques, ensuring accuracy and patient comfort.

Understand Specimen Handling and Processing: Educate students on the proper handling, labeling, and transportation of blood and other specimens to maintain sample integrity and prevent contamination.

Develop Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology: Provide a foundational understanding of human anatomy and physiology, focusing on the circulatory system and its relevance to phlebotomy.

Promote Patient Safety and Infection Control: Ensure students are well-versed in infection control practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Enhance Communication and Patient Interaction Skills: Foster effective communication techniques for interacting with patients, explaining procedures, and addressing patient concerns with empathy and professionalism.

Prepare for Certification and Career Readiness: Equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully pass national certification exams and transition smoothly into a career as a certified phlebotomy technician.
